August 22, 2022

Dear Student(s) and Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

Welcome back!  We are all very excited to start the 2022-2023 school year and look forward to seeing all 9th - 12th grade students on Thursday, September 1st.  This will be a RED day.  We will see freshman only on August 31st for Freshman Orientation

 The following are some reminders/important information about the high school and want to make sure you are aware of these.  Some of the important details and exciting changes within our school are as follows:

  • We will continue to use PowerSchool as our student information system.  This is an opportunity to ensure you are communicating with your child and their teachers about their grades, attendance, etc… We are moving toward full implementation of an electronic system.  Please find your PowerSchool information included in this opening letter so you can update/complete your individual student’s information.  All media/field trip/sports permissions will now be electronic.  These forms in PowerSchool need to be completed for all returning students.
  • Dress code- Last year the students and staff worked on revising the dress code.  The proposed changes have been reviewed with the school board and any approval of changes will be addressed at the first School Board Business Meeting.  In the interim, all students are expected to follow the current dress code which can be reviewed online in the student handbook.
  • ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) will be the new district safety protocol.  The roll out/implementation of ALICE will be throughout this school year.  We are working with the Lisbon Police Department to ensure all staff and students are well versed in this protocol.  I have included some frequently asked questions for parents to review.
  • The Lisbon School Department has added a second School Resource Officer (SRO) position.  Officer Brianna Kenney will be stationed in the main office at the High School this school year!
  • Student vaping (including e-cigarettes) has dominated the news headlines for the past few years.  “While there are clear health implications for students who choose to vape, the decision to do so on campus also impacts fellow students and faculty. This is especially true when done in areas like bathrooms and locker rooms where there isn’t proper circulation or air filtering.”  To keep our campus safe and healthy, all student bathrooms and locker rooms have been equipped with vape detectors.  These silent alerts will go directly to administration and the SRO to be addressed accordingly.
  • We have been very fortunate to find some wonderful new staff to join our high school team.  Please be sure to join us on Wednesday, September 14th for Open House (5:30-6:30pm) to meet our existing and new staff that your child may have for classes this year!
  • Technology- All students have 1:1 access to laptops throughout the day.  If you would like to sign one out, please see the front office for a technology form.  There is a $40 technology fee.  The fee for all students who qualify for free/reduced lunch and McKinney Vento will be waived.

Some reminders moving into our new school year:

  • Again this year, we are distributing the Lisbon High School student handbook electronically.  A current version of the student handbook can be found on the Lisbon School Department webpage at lisbonschoolsme.org.
  • Attendance!  We continue to work on our attendance protocols and cannot emphasize enough the need for our students to be in school.  In a continued partnership, we can conquer this goal!  We will be tracking and recording absences based on “excused and unexcused” criteria (please see the handbook for examples of what may be excused versus unexcused).
  • Dress Code- With the daily changes in weather, please be sure to dress school appropriate and adhere to the dress code per the school handbook.
  • Students will have the option to use a locker this school year.  This will be offered in the first couple of weeks to the start of the school year.
  • Nutrition forms- All families should complete and return the nutrition forms that are within this mailing.  It is very important these are completed even though breakfast/lunch remains free for all students.

We look forward to a great year together!  If you have any questions, please feel free to call the main office at (207) 353-3030.

Sincerely,

Susan E. Magee, Principal
